You don’t want to put criminals in your place of business when you can avoid it. And, at $24.95 + county fees if applicable for a County Criminal Background Check, there's just no excuse not to run one on every applicant. And, when you consider the liability you potentially face if the applicant you have chosen commits a crime, it's crazy not to use the best information available to you. The best defense is to show that you used the "Best Available Means" to check the applicant's background prior to an offer of employment.
Screening your applicants carefully includes running a Criminal Background Report during the application approval process. Remember that once you adopt any policy as a part of your approval process, you must do the same things, run the same checks etc. on EVERY applicant. Not to, might be considered a form of discrimination. Over 90% of business owners perform pre-employment background checks on their applicants.
Then there's the importance of ‘post employment’ background checks to be performed during the full terms of employment. Knowing the Criminal Backgrounds of your employees, contractors, handy or repair people, baby sitters, nannies, cleaning persons, etc. are an important way to reduce potential costly risks. The following states do not disclose their criminal records at the national or state level. These states require a County Criminal Search for the counties they have resided in. For individuals living in these states, and because of the transient nature of our society, it is recommended that you still run a National Criminal Search to seek records in the other 42 states. A person may have committed a crime in another (reporting) state, which would appear in the National Criminal Report.

All US counties for all 50 states are available in the County Criminal Search. This search will provide the most up to date information as it requires a visit to the county courthouse to attain the results.
Some counties incur an additional fee however, most do not. This will appear in the shopping cart when you place your order if the additional fee is applicable for your search.
We recommend that you include attaining a copy of the Drivers License with your Application Paperwork for employment. This is recommended so that you can verify the date of birth for the Nationwide Criminal Order Search. If the DOB does not match when doing the search including dates of birth, no records will be found. It is possible that an applicant may give you the wrong DOB in order to hide their criminal records. Please keep in mind that if you make this a requirement in your application process, you must do so with all applicants so you will be in jeopardy of discrimination.
